When you're studying ancient history trivia in particular, it is referring to a particular period throughout human history. The later part of ancient history was largely characterized by figures such as Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar. The most important historical figure in ancient history, Jesus Christ, is also born near the end of that period. The next period of history is known as the common era, which went up until the fall of Rome.
